On 15 January 2021, the ALSA (Asian Law School Association) Inaugural Deans’ Forum: COVID-19 and the post-pandemic world: Rethinking law schools and legal education was successfully held online by ALSA Secretariat, School of Law, City University of Hong Kong. The participants are deans from 22 prestigious law schools in Asia, including Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sun Yat-sen University, City University of Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong, Kobe University, Nagoya University, National Chiao Tung University, Singapore Management University, Thammasat University, Universiti Malaya and University of the Philippines. Dean He Zhipeng attended the forum as one of the inaugurators on behalf of JLU School of Law.

The forum clarified the inaugural object and purpose of ALSA in the first place. The Panel members managed to sign the ALSA MOU, and shared the ALSA website online. Afterwards, Panel Discussion 1: Rethinking the future of legal education was held. Panel members from Nagoya University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Singapore Management University, Sun Yat-Sen University had in-depth discussions concerning the re-design of the curriculum for legal education, the preparation of the graduates for the real world, the emphasis on extracurricular activities, and the leverage of technology in delivering legal education. The members exchanged ideas and learned from one another. It is a platform to provide new thoughts for the development of legal education in the post-pandemic era.

This event symbolizes that the international cooperation and external exchange capability of JLU School of Law has reached a new level, and the achievement of legal education in Jilin University has attained the approval and support of colleges in Asia. As one of the inaugurators of ALSA, Jilin University School of Law will be actively engaged in Asian legal education together with other prestigious law schools in Asia. In the future, JLU School of Law will make efforts to contribute to the development of legal education. Furthermore, in April 2021, JLU School of Law will hold the 2021 ALSA Symposium co-sponsored by City University of Hong Kong, for the prosperity of legal education in Asia.
