The third symposium on the construction of “the belt and road initiative” in Tumen River was successfully held in Hunchun People’s Court on October 20, 2020. The seminar was co-organized by Research Center of “the Belt and Road Initiative” at Jilin University School of Law, Higher People’s Court of Jilin Province, Intermediate People’s Court of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Hunchun People’s Government and Hunchun People’s Court. The purpose of the seminar is to discuss the civil and commercial cooperation in Northeast Asia. Research Center of “the Belt and Road Initiative” followed up the whole process. Shen Hongyu, Vice President of the Fourth Court of the Supreme People’s Court, Yu Bing, Party member and Vice President of Higher People’s Court of Jilin Province, Wu Junmin, Inspector of Jilin Provincial Department of Commerce, Shao Kebin, Vice President of Jilin Committee of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and Li Yanchen, Executive Vice Mayor of Hunchun attended the seminar and delivered speeches. Yu Chengri, President of the Intermediate People’s Court of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, concluded the symposium. Representatives from relevant government departments, courts, lawyers’ associations, law firms and scholars from Jilin University also took attendances.
The topic of this symposium is “Construction of International Commercial Dispute Settlement Center for Yanbian-Northeast Asia Region” and “Research on the Opportunities and Risks of Hunchun Marine Economic Development”. Judges, lawyers and scholars made relevant reports, including the influence of cross-border dispute resolution in Singapore Mediation Convention, the idea of establishing an international commercial dispute resolution center in Northeast Asia, the cultivation of lawyers handling foreign affairs, the demands for court interpretation, the thoughts on international cooperation in marine economy of Tumen River region, and the construction of intellectual property protection mechanism in Northeast Asia. Professor Tian Hongyun from Jilin University School of Law presided over the discussion sessions, and gave a keynote speech on “Singapore Mediation Convention and its Influence on Cross-border Dispute Resolution”.
The symposium will comprehensively accelerate the construction of International Commercial Dispute Settlement Center for Yanbian-Northeast Asia Region with Hunchun as the focus. It also promotes the understanding of an applicable system of foreign-related laws and enhances communication of foreign-related commercial trial experiences.This symposium offers a platform of litigation services for foreign parties and speeds up the establishment of a dispute settlement mechanism for foreign-related commercial cases. In the future, Research Center of “the Belt and Road Initiative” at Jilin University School of Law will continue to make positive contributions.
